A place full of history
Have you ever heard of Berwang? Or visited this Tyrolean gem? Learn more about its history!
Berwang, with its 586 inhabitants, is a true haven of tranquillity in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. Surrounded by nothing but extraordinary mountain peaks, unspoilt landscapes and idyllic nature, everyone can find their own personal holiday happiness here. But what is there to know about the history of such a place? Berwang was settled many thousands of years ago from Imst, Gurgeltal. At the time, people wanted to find new pastures, and there were plenty of them here. However, the name "Berwang" has nothing to do with berries or the surrounding mountains. "Ber" is derived from bear, "Wang" from meadow. This can also be seen in the municipality's coat of arms, which depicts a black bear on a green shield base. Today the once small municipality of Berwang comprises a further seven villages, namely Bichlbächle, Brand, Gröben, Kleinstockach, Mitteregg, Rinnen, and Tal. All of them can be happily explored from our 4-star hotel in the Austrian Alps. So, what are you waiting for?
